I'm a member of a choir myself, so I watched a few episodes of _Glee_ with interest. It's not awful, but it's too soapy for me. Like the Academy Awards or the Superbowl, _Glee_ is the sort of thing I might sit thru with friends or a SO (and beer), but I wouldn't want to feel professionally obligated to keep up with it.

Mike, as one of my most valued readers -- and oldest friends -- your presence and participation here are always appreciated. Especially when you catch typos! I have repaired the King's Speech caption. Thanks, and sorry for any confusion.

Sadly, unless that Doritos deal comes through, I don't get paid to write the blog. But I know what you're saying. I too feel my job is enviable, and I'm grateful I can immerse myself in the things that fascinate me. As for your pity, have you *seen* Glee?

Recipe for confusion:

1. See mention of King's Speech on Bob's fb feed. Stop reading immediately to avoid spoilers.

2. Develop an itch to see what Bob says about it on his blog.

3. Go see KS. (Why someone with a degree in rhetoric hadn't seen it already is a long story.)

4. Come home, eat a late dinner, drink a little too much wine.

5. Fire up the computer and start reading Bob's blog, but mistakenly start reading the entry about 127, thinking that it is the entry about KS. (Huh? What? Castration in reverse? James Franco?)

6. Figure out that you are reading the wrong entry. Scroll down to the Colin Firth photo.

7. Note that the caption under Mr. Firth is also labeled 127.

Anyway, confusion or not, your blog is always fun to read. As usual, I come away with a mixture of envy and pity for people in your field. Envy that you get paid to write about stuff like KS, and pity that you have to watch stuff like the Saw movies, reality TV, Glee, etc. (Not to mention having to read Lacan and Althusser -- throwaway profundity or throwaway erudition?)

Keep up the good work. Now, back to my Michigan wine.
